I am waiting for the fifth season of 24 to come out on DVD December 5th. In the meantime, I am watching the first season of the HBO comedy Entourage on the Stairmaster, trying to lose a few pounds. The show gives you a look at the day-to-day life of Vincent (Vince) Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood, and his entourage. He’s brought with him from their hometown in Queens, NY, manager Eric, half-brother Drama, and friend Turtle. The producers claim that “the series draws on the experiences of industry insiders to illustrate both the heady excesses of today’s celebrity lifestyle, as well as the difficulty of finding love and success in the fast track of show biz.” The show feels like as it was written by people who know Hollywood. It is charming precisely because it does not focus solely on the raising star Vince, but also on his three pals from Queens who live with Vince in the same house and get to enjoy the Hollywood lifestyle with him. Two of them in particular, Drama (a has-been actor) and Turtle (good natured loser), try to exploit the move to Hollywood for their own benefit, riding on the coattails of Vince into a city that would never let them succeed if they showed up on their own.
