Marriage made in Japan

by: PeterOctober 3, 2026

The NYTimes reports: For Japan’s Young Singles, Romance Gets a Corporate Middleman A generation exhausted by dating apps is embracing a corporate reinvention of traditional matchmaking, fueling

The Trumps are trying to kill Jimmy Kimmel

by: PeterApril 28, 2026

The front page of the NYT and WSJ are reporting the Jimmy Kimmel show is again on the hit list of the White House. Here is what my eyes just saw on WSJ.com. President Trump on Monday called on Disney’s ABC to remove late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over a joke he made last week about Melania [Read More]

I am sad that David Brooks stops writing in column for NY Times

by: PeterFebruary 21, 2026

I learned so much from David Brooks. He was one of my favorite columnists of the NY Times. Here is his final column and a few answers to readers that he gave after he stepped down from NY Times. OPINION DAVID BROOKS Time to Say Goodbye My grandfather Bernard Levy played a big role in my childhood. When we [Read More]

This WSJ editorial line made me laugh out loud

by: PeterFebruary 12, 2026

In my view, some of the most important resistance to Trump 2.0 comes from the WSJ editorial writers, who criticize Trump 2.0 much more frequently than Trump 1.0. In fact, I resubscribed to the WSJ in 2016 because I wanted to see how the editorial pages, which are typically staunch supporters of Republican administrations, were [Read More]

by: PeterFebruary 8, 2026

Just came across this excellent article in The Atlantic explaining why “t]here are good reasons you always feel 20 percent younger than your actual age.” Actually a feel a full 33% younger. Jennifer Senior (no, this is not a pen name) writes: This past Thanksgiving, I asked my mother how old she was in her head. She [Read More]

Melania – The Film

by: PeterJanuary 31, 2026

Unlike many of my friends, I am today 95% sure that Donald Trump will not stay president beyond the constitutional length of his second term, which will end on Sat., Jan. 20, 2029. Yes, this feels very far away, but I predict there will be an end. A few days ago, the “documentary” Melania had [Read More]

Outrage over ICE has spilled into typically apolitical online spaces

by: PeterJanuary 27, 2026

The Washington Post reported today that people have spoken out against ICE on social media channels that are typically free of political content. This, to me, suggests that the public mood is shifting. The full story is here.
